FEMALE HAIR LOSS:
WHY IT HAPPENS AND WHY ROUTINE WORKS
If you’ve started to notice your pony tail thinning, you aren’t alone. Over ⅓ of all women will experience some form of hair loss during their lifetime. Hair loss among women can occur for a variety of reasons, including changes to your hormonal level during pregnancy or menopause, changes in your lifestyle such as stress or dieting, or even environmental factors such as excessive heat or pollution.
Whether your hair loss is caused by hormones or a factor such as diet, stress or weight loss, it is treatable. That said, it is important to take action quickly in order to minimize the loss of your head crown.
WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS IN WOMEN
When most people think of hair loss, they think of balding men wearing suits and ties. However, hair loss affects over ⅓ of all women, and can start as early as your mid-20’s. Below, we’ve outlined the major causes of of hair loss among women:
HORMONES
Much like with male hair loss, dihydrotestosterone (known as “DHT”) is the main culprit when it comes to women losing their hair.
DHT is a hormone that is derived from testosterone. While men have a large amount of testosterone and a fairly small amount of estrogenic hormones, women have a large amount of estrogen and progesterone hormones, but still carry a small amount of testosterone within their bodies. The DHT hormones within your body work to reduce the size of your hair follicles until your hair is lost entirely.
In women, the loss of hair occurs differently than with men. Instead of the typical horseshoe-like hair pattern that is common among men, women tend to use their hair across their entire scalp, which is why you might notice your pony tail shrinking. Simply put, while your hair line might not recede, you might notice your hair thinning anyway.
Hormonal hair loss is treatable, but it is important to act swiftly to keep as much of your hair as possible.
MENOPAUSE
During menopause, women typically produce less estrogen and progesterone. As a result, the levels of testosterone and DHT within your body can have a larger impact, and reduce the thickness of your mane.
Like other forms of female-pattern hair loss, menopausal hair loss is treatable.
STRESS AND DIET
Both stress and rapid weight loss can cause your hair to thin by forcing your hair into the telogen phase – the final phase of hair growth. As a result of much of your scalp’s hair being in the final phase of growth, you may notice more shedding on your pillow or in the shower. In addition, since most of your hair is in the final phase of growth, replacement hairs won’t be available to replace the lost hair.
Fortunately, stress and diet related hair loss is also treatable with intervention.
WHY USE ROUTINE
Routine Shampoo is made from ingredients that were specifically chosen to combat thinning hair.
For instance, Routine Shampoo contains saw palmetto, which has been shown to reduce DHT levels by up to 32 percent – enough to produce a noticeable slowdown in hair loss. Saw palmetto acts as a follicle guard, breaking down buildup that can keep follicles from growing thick, healthy hair.
In addition, Routine Shampoo contains pea peptides that stimulate and strengthen hair follicles, improving hair strength and volume. Similarly, our shampoo contains biotin, which increases the strength of each strand and the diameter of the hair shaft.
Simply put, Routine Shampoo and Conditioner arm you in your fight against thinning hair.
