How to Comb Your Hair The Right Way

HOW TO COMB YOUR HAIR THE RIGHT WAY

If you’re looking for healthy, soft and smooth hair, hear us out!

First thing’s first: why do we brush our hair at all? Your sebaceous gland produces natural oils to lubricate your hair and scalp. When you brush your hair you’re actually helping to distribute those oils from your scalp to the ends of your hair. This helps to produce shiny, healthy looking hair plus it leaves your roots less oily! It also helps to stimulate your scalp, and therefore promote more hair growth. Lastly, brushing your hair helps remove loose hair – did you know that it’s normal to shed 50-100 strands of hair per day? Brushing to remove these loose strands can help promote healthier hair.

So let’s jump into some helpful tips on how to properly brush your hair:

TIP TO SCALP & BACK AGAIN

The best way to brush your hair is to start at the ends. Slowly brush the tips and work your way up to the scalp. By brushing the ends of your hair first, you can minimize breakage. Once you’ve reached your scalp, run your comb through the length of your hair from scalp to tip a few times. This will help redistribute your scalp’s natural oils to the rest of your hair and provide you more shine!

FREQUENCY

Generally, you should brush your hair twice a day. However, your hair type is a significant factor here. If you love your hair’s texture (that is, if you have curls) limit your hair brushing as it can cause you to lose your natural texture.

NEVER WHEN WET

Brushing your hair when wet is almost always a big mistake, as it can lead to frizz, breakage, and damage.

You always want your hair to be at least 80% dry before you brush it. Use a towel or cloth to gently dry your hair or air dry even for 10 minutes before you proceed with any brushing. Lastly, if you really need to brush your hair while it’s wet, make sure to use a brush that is specifically designed for brushing wet hair. These brushes will typically have softer and more flexible bristles so you can softly detangle your hair. Ideally, you can find one that is also wide-toothed to minimize pressure.

If you don’t brush your hair at all (it’s okay, your secret is safe with us), you can expect more oils on your scalp and more tangles in your hair. In that case, be sure to massage Routine Shampoo vigorously on your scalp to ensure there is no oil build up, and Routine Conditioner on your ends to remove tangles.

Even though we’ve all been caring for our hair for a while, it never hurts to learn a few more tips.

Happy brushing!
