Tea Tree Oil: Why We Use It In Routine

3 REASONS WE USE TEA TREE OIL

Tea tree oil is an essential oil that is derived from the leaves of the melaleuca plant, and has been used for centuries in Australia as an antiseptic and antifungal agent. The oil first became popular in Australia because the melaleuca plant is native to southeast Queensland and the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia.

Over the past few decades, tea tree oil has also gained popularity in skincare formulations, as it has proven itself to be an effective fighter of acne. In addition, many of the same bacteria that tea tree oil combats on the face can be found on the scalp, where they can cause similar chaos in the form of dry flakes or dandruff.

Here are 3 reasons why we chose to incorporate tea tree oil in Routine Shampoo and Routine Hair Serum:

LONGER, THICKER HAIR

Tea tree oil’s antibacterial and anti-fungal properties can help unclog your hair follicles and nourish your roots. This can contribute to longer and thicker hair. And while tea tree oil’s relationship with denser hair is not a direct one, improving your scalp microbiome can foster an environment that contributes to hair growth.

SOOTHE THE SCALP

Tea tree oil is believed to soothe your scalp because it is able to reduce certain markers of inflammation. This is likely a result of the oil’s antioxidants and antibacterial properties. As a result, tea tree oil can help alleviate the conditions associated with inflammation and dry scalp, including seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. In addition, inflammation of the scalp is one of the leading causes of hair loss, so reducing inflammation may prevent future hair loss.

PREVENT GREASY HAIR

You may be understandably skeptical when we say that using an oil in your hair can prevent greasy hair, but hear us out. Tea tree oil can help reduce the feeling of an oily scalp or greasy hair by regulating your scalp’s oil production. This happens because tea tree oil keeps the scalp hydrated and free from bacteria clogging up the hair follicles.

At Routine, we love the natural cleansing and soothing benefits of tea tree oil for our hair, which is why we incorporate it into our products.
