The Ultimate Guide To Fine Hair

THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO FINE HAIR

Everyone wishes they were born with that thick Vidal Sassoon hair we used to see on television ads a few decades ago. Fine hair, on the other hand, can feel like a burden and look limp and lifeless unless you take precious care of it.

We’re sharing the ultimate guide to caring for fine hair below. Before we get started, it is important to note that fine hair refers to the diameter of each individual strand of hair, and not the amount of hair you have. That is, you can have lots of fine hair, or your hair can be thinning while you have fine hair.

Without further adieu, here are 5 steps you can take to improve the look of thin hair:

WASH FREQUENTLY

While your thick hair friends may only need to wash their hair once or twice a week, fine hair is important to keep clean. The reason for this is simple. Fine hairs have a smaller diameter per hair than thick hairs. As a result, the oils secreted by your scalp quickly make their way down the strand of fine hair, which can cause your hair to appear oily and flat (that means no volume!). We recommend you wash your hair every 2-3 days to remove any excess buildup of oil or leave in products that may be causing your hair to not look its best!

PICK GREAT PRODUCTS

You obviously have great taste, since you’re likely using Routine Shampoo and Conditioner already. Both are formulated to be lightweight and keep your hair lifted at the root, giving you more volume and the appearance of thicker hair. Be sure to avoid ultra hydrating conditioners, which can over-moisturize your hair and cause it to be heavy and flat.

You may also want to try Routine Hair Supplement, which is made from ingredients that have been clinically proven to increase hair thickness and density.

GET A TRIM

When fine hair is grown to long lengths, it gets top-heavy and can look flat and thin. This is because the base root of the hair cannot support the weight of the entire strand and collapses. Shorter hair can actually give you the appearance of more volume, and paradoxically, more hair. In addition, fine hair is often weaker than other hair types and regular trims can ensure you don’t suffer from split ends.

MINIMIZE HEAT

While the blow dryer or iron may make it easier to shape and manage your hair, it’s also incredibly drying. Heat is a major factor to dry, dull-looking hair, as it strips your hair of its natural moisture. If you do reach for the dryer, use the lowest heat setting possible and use your hands to lift at the root until your hair is no longer moist. Then, reach for a natural-bristle round brush and finish drying until your hair is smooth.

USE A SERUM

Hair serums are great ways to intensively restore moisture and balance to your scalp and hair without weighing down your hair during the day. We recommend you use Routine Hair Serum either before you shower or at night for an intensive treatment. The serum can add moisture and even help with styling or heat protection without causing the loss of volume.
